The Johnson Center for Philanthropy has developed this new Program Officer Competency Model©. A competency model delineates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics (KSAOs) that are required for effective performance in a particular job or profession. They offer this model as a contribution to the field of philanthropy, aiming to elevate the importance of demonstrating core KSAOs over the holding of traditional credentials and formal networks — all in the service of supporting professional and personal fulfillment. The Johnson Center for Philanthropy encourages you to use, adapt, and share the model to map your professional journey, to structure position descriptions, design training programs, and more.

This report from Hispanics in Philanthropy, highlights both the circumstances that women face in the apparel industry and the broader economic environment in which apparel companies operate, which significantly affects how these companies treat their employees. It aims to provide philanthropies that focus on women’s well-being – especially those interested in guaranteeing equitable access to safe and fair work for women – with an innovative example of how they can direct their efforts: supporting projects that directly engage the private sector in examining the causes of injustice and human rights abuses and ultimately ameliorating them.

The New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH) recently awarded $202,840 in Incubation and Action Grant funding to fifteen organizations. Incubation Grants help organizations plan, research, develop, and prototype public humanities projects and events. Action Grants help organizations implement a wide array of humanities-based projects, including public programs, exhibitions, installations, tours, and discussion groups.
Public humanities programming allows individuals to engage in lifelong learning and share in the exploration of history, values, cultures, and beliefs. NJCH supports and acts as a resource for cultural and service-oriented nonprofit partners as they bring the public humanities to the residents of New Jersey, harnessing the power of the humanities to strengthen communities.
