The Doing Good Better Steering Committee encourages funders to focus on and advocate for four (4) changes that can make an immediate difference in addressing power dynamics between nonprofits and funders and maximizing nonprofit impact. These goals are aligned with Trust Based Philanthropy, and are interdependent; when combined, they foster equity and a spirit of mutual trust between grantmakers and nonprofit partners. Philanthropy and Nonprofits for Greater Impact: The “Doing Good Better” Blueprint Video

Impact100 Essex awarded its fourth annual grant to Prevent Child Abuse New Jersey (PCA-NJ). PCA-NJ's mission with the $100,000 grant is to implement a research-based, trauma-informed Children's Wellness Initiative in five Essex County schools or childcare centers, with the goal of reaching 1,500 students and their families.

"It's an amazing honor to be chosen by this remarkable group of women leaders in Essex County. This project will truly transform many schools in Essex County with new tools and information that teachers, principals, parents and students can use to better understand how "toxic" stressful events affect their ability to succeed in school. This program will provide the critical skills needed to strengthen the resilience needed to overcome the challenges in life. Our mission is to improve a broad array of critical outcomes, in school and in life, for hundreds of Essex County children and their families", said Rush Russell, Executive Director for PCA-NJ. PCA-NJ is in the process of identifying the first 5 schools in Essex County for this program. The Newark Educators Community Charter School is the first school to commit to the project.

In September 2022, Mayors for a Guaranteed Income, Center for Guaranteed Income Research, and Stanford Basic Income Lab officially announced the launch of a dashboard that displays early data from guaranteed income pilots across the country. Newark, NJ, a founding member of Mayors for a Guaranteed Income, is implementing a pilot of its own through a landmark public-private partnership led by the Office of Newark Philanthropic Liaison. Kevin Callaghan joined the WBGO Newark Today "Ask the Mayor" show to discuss what we are learning and how this pilot can inform state and federal public policy.

High-quality early care and education (ECE) programs have been proven to create positive outcomes for children—especially among those living in poverty. Yet many children from low-income families have a hard time accessing quality child care, and miss the critical developmental growth and foundation needed for academic and life success. Based on  Nonprofit Finance Fund's research and analysis of 147 nonprofit child care centers in Southeastern Pennsylvania, the report demystifies the financial, business and systemic barriers to expanding high-quality care—and begins to identify how to increase access for more children.
