Lessons from the Measure of America: A Portrait of Newark Report
Please join us for a combined meeting of the Newark Funder Affinity Group and the Newark Education Funder Affinity Group to discuss the recently released Measure of America report, A Portrait of Newark. The Portrait of Newark report was produced in partnership with the Newark Opportunity Youth Network, which convened an advisory panel of local public servants, advocates, and non-profit leaders to contribute their expertise to the research. The report itself provides an analysis of the current state of the city’s many residents, identifies areas of opportunity, and addresses the persistent inequities that we still experience in health, education, and overall well-being of Newark residents.
Speakers:
Alex Powers, Associate Director, Measure of America
Kate Harvey, Program Assistant, Measure of America
Robert Clark, Founder and CEO, Opportunity Youth Network

TD Bank has announced grants totaling $2.8 million in support of efforts to drive a faster, more equitable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in vulnerable communities across the United States.
Through the third annual TD Ready Challenge, the bank awarded grants to six U.S. nonprofits working to develop innovative solutions to inequities exacerbated by the pandemic in disproportionately impacted communities.
"The COVID-19 pandemic created a healthcare crisis that exposed social, economic, and racial inequities, and we know it continues to disproportionately impact vulnerable populations across the U.S.," said TD Bank president and CEO Greg Braca. "This year, we focused the TD Ready Challenge competition on organizations that provide innovative solutions to the communities where we live and work."

However, with important local, state and federal elections coming up this fall, nonprofits should take the time to remind their staff about appropriate activity during a political campaign or at any other time. This overview developed by Donors Forum provides important tips and examples of activities that are permissible for nonprofits during an election cycle.

Nonprofit leaders identify the polarized and unpredictable political climate as one of their key challenges, posing risks to funding, organizational missions, and the communities they serve. This report analyzes survey responses from 585 nonprofit leaders, highlighting staffing difficulties, widespread burnout, and deep concern about future funding uncertainty and increasing costs.

Synergos, a global nonprofit organization that brings people together to solve complex challenges like poverty, published this report that “explores how the provision of general operating support and capacity building can help [funders and] donors improve the impact of nonprofit organizations and in turn the communities they serve.”
