The Newark Philanthropic Liaison led a two-year process to develop a municipal economic empowerment blueprint that brings all sectors together in Newark to support resident’s financial health. The resulting document created a financial empowerment continuum that calls on the implementation of a tiered approach that focuses on helping residents stabilize, sustain, and secure their wealth over time. The document was created with grant funds from Cities for Financial Empowerment and in close coordination with the United Way of Greater Newark’s Asset Building Coalition.

While donor collaboration is not a new concept, the new economic reality has more and more families, foundations and companies looking towards collaboration as a tool to increase their impact on the issues they care about. This primer was created to help donors understand and evaluate if some form of collaboration might be right for them.
Echoing Green and Bridgespan collaborated to research the depth of racial inequities in philanthropic funding. Based on what we see in our work as intermediaries in the sector, two of the biggest factors holding back philanthropy’s efforts to help advance social change are rooted in race:
- Understanding the role of race in the problems philanthropists are trying to solve
- The significance of race when it comes to how philanthropists identify leaders and find solutions.
This research, from Echoing Green and Bridgespan, lays bare the racial disparity in today’s funding environment and argues that population-level impact cannot happen without funding more leaders of color.
CNJG is tracking philanthropy’s response to the coronavirus pandemic by elevating our “Get on the Map” Campaign partnership with Candid (formerly Foundation Center). Candid recently launched their new coronavirus map, as a part of their coronavirus webpage. Now, we need your help to share funding efforts related to the coronavirus pandemic, so your COVID-19 grants can get on this new map. The more data that they can gather to complete the map, the more useful this resource will be for your organization.
Learn how you can share your data with Candid in this webinar as Kati Neiheisel, EReporting Liaison will walk us through the why and how of sharing data, and how sharing grants data informs the sector, locally, regionally, and globally. It is critical to be transparent and share this information with philanthropy in the coming weeks and months. Tracking this data will help coordinate and inform all of NJ Grantmakers' efforts for COVID-19 response and relief.
After this demonstration, we will hear from Linda Czipo, President and CEO at the Center for Non-Profits for an update on the results of the 2nd Rapid Response Coronavirus Nonprofit Survey conducted from April 3 to April 7.
