TD Bank announced four grant recipients of the 2024 TD Ready Challenge, an annual initiative that supports nonprofit organizations develop effective programs and solutions for communities within the bank's footprint.
Each year, the TD Ready Challenge solicits eligible organizations to submit applications that offer solutions to a different problem statement, with this year's focus being on innovative solutions to support underserved small business owners. Today's grant recipients will each receive $1 million through the TD Ready Challenge to advance initiatives designed to help disrupt barriers for underserved entrepreneurs while supporting the larger needs of the small business community.
Blue Foundry Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Blue Foundry Bank, awarded $20,000 in grants to six New Jersey nonprofits in the first quarter of 2025, reinforcing its commitment to community support. The foundation focuses its giving efforts on four key areas: affordable housing, education, health and human services, and youth programs.
“Our dedication to the New Jersey communities we serve is at the heart of these grants, ensuring local services have the resources to create a stronger, brighter future,” said James D. Nesci, president and CEO of Blue Foundry Bank and vice president of Blue Foundry Charitable Foundation.
The Summit Foundation board of trustees approved $369,946 in grants to 28 local organizations on June 3, 2025. These grants support a range of initiatives and programs that positively impact public spaces, healthcare, education, the arts, youth development, housing, food distribution and people with disabilities.
“As a community foundation, our goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors,” said Dana Turk, president of The Summit Foundation. “We address local challenges and open doors to new opportunities for people to thrive. These grants reflect our ongoing commitment to do good by enhancing the well-being and dignity of people living in the Summit area."
The Food Bank of South Jersey has announced a $1.5 million gift from the Campbell’s Foundation in support of its new Center for Health, Wellness, and Nutrition.
The gift from the philanthropic arm of the Campbell’s Company will support the food bank's new space designed to expand access to nutritious food, advance health equity, and provide hands-on education and wellness programs across South Jersey. The center will house a nutrition education teaching kitchen as well as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) outreach and community learning spaces. The center will expand the Food Bank’s impact across Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties.

The Community Foundation of South Jersey announced Friday 42 recipients of Round 6 grants from its COVID-19 Response Fund.
The Haddonfield-based philanthropy organization said 41 nonprofits were awarded $210,000, to fund organizations serving Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem counties negatively affected by the pandemic and related economic difficulties. To date, 153 grants totaling more than $1.068 million have been distributed. .
“Our community partners and the families they serve have had to adapt during the pandemic, and they continue to navigate their work through the ongoing health crisis,” said CFSJ Executive Director Andy Fraizer. “The first five rounds of grants were focused on organizations serving high-need, vulnerable populations in areas such as housing, health and education. While a number of those organizations are represented in Round 6, we are also providing help to smaller arts and culture organizations who are still working to recover from this crisis as they adjust to operating in a new normal.”.
“Even as New Jersey has reopened and more and more residents have answered the call to get vaccinated, the effects of the pandemic continue to hamper nonprofits throughout the region,” said Wanda Hardy, chairperson of the foundation’s Community Leadership and Engagement Committee. “As we look to the future, we will continue to work with engaged and generous donors throughout our service area, as well as determined nonprofit partners, as the region moves from crisis relief to long-term recovery.”
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) has announced a 10-year, $20 million commitment from Novartis in support of students and faculty at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and medical schools.
With the goal of reducing financial barriers to a college education and equipping the next generation of leaders in health, business, and social equity-related fields, the Novartis US Foundation HBCU Scholarship program will provide up to $10,000 a year for up to 360 students at 27 institutions. Recipients also will have access to training, professional development, and opportunities for real-world skill application. In addition, 10 competitive faculty research grants of $25,000 a year will be offered to faculty at the participating HBCUs.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the inequities Black Americans face, with recent data showing that higher rates of cases and deaths in predominantly Black counties are associated with social conditions and structural racism, not underlying health conditions. That inequity extends to Black underrepresentation across medical systems—not only among clinical trial participants but also among medical school students, physicians, and clinical trial investigators.
“While the world has focused on the numbers of COVID-19 positive infections and deaths, many have ignored the long-term educational and economic impacts of the pandemic—especially for Black Americans,” said TMCF president and CEO Harry L. Williams. “Although there has been attention to the great disparities of Black Americans contracting COVID-19, and the higher death rates for Black Americans than for other racial groups, this community will be living with COVID-19 impacts for the next two decades in economic, educational, and health outcomes.”
Campbell Soup Co. and the Campbell Soup Foundation on Tuesday announced a new round of 42 Community Impact Grants totaling nearly $1 million to organizations making an impact in the communities where Campbell has operations.
The grants provide support to nonprofit organizations operating in Campbell communities whose work aligns with one or more of the focus areas of the foundation: increasing food access, encouraging healthy living and nurturing Campbell neighborhoods. The latest round brings Campbell’s fiscal 2022 grantmaking total to more than $2 million.
Community Impact Grants were launched in 2019 to expand the geographic reach of the foundation’s funding to more communities where Campbell has operations and to engage more employees in the grantmaking process. This year’s grantees include 40 organizations in 30 Campbell plant and office communities and two national organizations supporting local chapters in multiple Campbell communities. The grants will provide funding for a range of important community work, including nutritious meal programs, outdoor science and nutrition learning labs, community recreation, youth athletic programs and more.
“Campbell is committed to building vibrant communities and making a positive impact in the neighborhoods where our employees live and work,” said Kate Barrett, Campbell’s director of community affairs and vice president of the Campbell Soup Foundation. “The Community Impact Grants program empowers our employees to give back by nominating organizations making a meaningful impact in their hometowns.”
To influence systematic change in employment practices for individuals with disabilities, Kessler Foundation provided a $100,000 initial investment grant for the May launch of "Employing Abilities at Work Certificate" by SHRM Foundation, the 501c (3) philanthropic arm of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
Developed in partnership with the St. Augustine, FL-based consulting firm Global Disability Inclusion, the free certificate program aims to educate human resource (HR) professionals, people managers, and business leaders about the benefits of providing a more equitable, diverse workplace for individuals with disabilities. The program will prepare human resource professionals to confidently attract, hire, and retain this population successfully in the workplace.
According to CDC data, more than one in four (26 percent) of the U.S. population identifies with a disability. This community provides a large, unrealized pool of candidates consisting of considerable skills and strengths.
"People with disabilities have the talent and ability to fill the many employment opportunities in today's job marketplace," said Elaine E. Katz, MS, CCC-SLP, Senior Vice President, of Grantmaking and Communications, Kessler Foundation. "The new SHRM Foundation certificate program provides a roadmap for HR professionals to enable authentic disability inclusion, which allows all employees to feel welcome, included, and respected," she says, adding, "more importantly, this certificate is free, enabling SHRM members and others to effect change and growth in companies looking to diversify their workforce."
The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey (HFNJ) is pleased to announce that it has awarded $1,116,928 to eight New Jersey non-profit organizations in the second quarter of 2022.
The two largest awards given this quarter are a $222,383 grant to the Jewish Community Housing Corporation to support the renovation and expansion of their Lester Senior Housing Medical Suite, and a $193,923 award to Caldwell University to upgrade the equipment, staff capacity, and professional training opportunities at their School of Nursing.
Nearly all the other grants awarded in this cycle address behavioral health – highlighting the urgent need for treatment laid bare by the “second pandemic” of mental health concerns exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The requests The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey received this quarter demonstrate that nonprofit organizations in greater Newark and the Jewish Greater MetroWest community have an urgent need for qualified mental health clinicians to help them address their communities’ increasing and ever-more complex health needs,” said Michael Schmidt, Executive Director and CEO of the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. “We are particularly pleased to support several organizations serving children, whose mental health has been particularly impacted throughout the pandemic by school closures and loss of learning time, loss of routines, social isolation, and family stress.”
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) today announced plans to award grants totaling $17.5 million to 30 nonprofit organizations through Phase 3 of its successful Sustain & Serve NJ program. Sustain & Serve NJ provides eligible entities with grants to support the purchase of meals from New Jersey restaurants that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19 and the distribution of those meals at no cost to recipients. The additional $17.5 million in awards announced today brings total program funding to $52.5 million.
Sustain & Serve NJ launched during the pandemic as a $2 million pilot program to boost restaurants impacted by COVID and has grown into an over $50 million program that continues to bring much-needed food to people across New Jersey. Since February 2021, Sustain & Serve NJ has already supported the purchase of more than 3.5 million meals from over 400 restaurants in all 21 counties with grants totaling $35 million.
Phase 3 of Sustain & Serve NJ is funded by $10 million allocated by Governor Phil Murphy from the federal American Rescue Plan and approximately $7.5 million in State funding. Funding from this latest phase is expected to support the purchase of an additional 1.5 million meals.
“Sustain & Serve NJ has become a national model for addressing food insecurity, supporting small businesses that are the heartbeat of our downtowns, and providing funding to the nonprofit entities that deliver vital services,” said Acting Governor Sheila Y. Oliver. “Combatting hunger remains a top priority and it is more critical than ever that nonprofits have the resources they need to feed the people within their communities.”
New Jersey Community Capital, the state’s largest community development financial institution, announced Tuesday that it has donated a total of $50,000 to the municipalities of Newark, Paterson, Camden, Trenton and New Brunswick.
Each of the five municipalities will receive $10,000 in funding for specific community organizations or initiatives focused on economic development, youth programs, public health and more. The donation is part of NJCC’s commitment to this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration theme: “It starts with me: cultivating a beloved community mindset to transform unjust systems.” NJCC CEO Bernel Hall said the organization feels the donations will have great impact.
In honor of the life, legacy and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, New Jersey Community Capital invites you to join it in furthering NJCC’s mission of promoting equitable opportunities for all.
“We’re thrilled to be able to build on Dr. King’s mission and integrate it into our work throughout New Jersey and support such well-deserving community organizations and impactful programming,” he said. “These cities are doing crucial work to make New Jersey the best it can be, and partnering with them to do even more will provide better outcomes and opportunities for residents.” Hall said NJCC’s charitable giving corresponds to its work across the state to finance the predevelopment, acquisition, construction, rehabilitation and mini-permanent needs of affordable housing units for ownership and rental opportunities. NJCC’s lending takes a holistic and equitable approach by financing projects that use the diverse pillars of a community, including small businesses, commercial office and retail spaces and early childhood education centers.
TD Charitable Foundation on Monday said it awarded a total of $7 million to 37 nonprofits across the bank’s footprint through the 17th annual Housing for Everyone grant program.
According to the charitable giving arm of Cherry Hill-based TD Bank, “America’s Most Convenient Bank,” grants ranging from $150,000 to $250,000 will support organizations that work to deliver rental assistance, rehabilitate affordable rental housing properties and build organizational capacity to address resident sustainability for the long-term.
As individuals and families across the country struggle with inflation and an exponential rise in rental costs, affordable housing providers face increased hardship, given the growing demand for affordable rental units and emergency rental assistance.
“The affordable housing crisis continues to burden the most vulnerable members of our communities and the organizations committed to supporting them,” Paige Carlson-Heim, director of the TD Charitable Foundation, said. “At TD, we’re committed to doing our part to help create a more sustainable and inclusive future for everyone, and that includes providing access to safe, affordable homes. This year’s grant recipients are mission-critical to that work, and the TD Charitable Foundation is proud to support them in their efforts to create a positive impact and a pathway to housing stability in the communities we serve.”
As we know, COVID-19 had a significant impact on student academic achievement. School districts across the state and country are working to accelerate student learning with a particular focus on literacy. Join us for our next Newark Education Funder meeting as we explore how funders can support a community approach to literacy, including the recently released Ten Point Literacy Plan. We will hone in on statewide and local data with the support of a recent study published by JerseyCAN, and then discuss how we can collaborate with grantees on systems that complement the traditional K-12 school day, particularly early literacy and support for reading at home, after-school and community programs, and collaborations with institutions like the Newark Public Library.

Please join us as we kick-off our 2024 meetings with a discussion on the Vote 16 campaign. Last August, the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice released Let Us Vote: Why 16-and-17-Year-Olds Should Be Allowed to Vote in Local Elections and Beyond, a policy brief arguing that New Jersey municipalities should lower the voting age to 16 for local and school board elections. Last month, the Newark City Council made Newark the first city in New Jersey to extend the vote to 16 and 17 year olds. With a year until implementation, the funding community has an opportunity to discuss how it can support youth serving and youth leadership organizations prepare youth to exercise their new right.
We will also spend the second half of our meeting updating each other on our current funding priorities and identifying possible areas of collaboration for this group. CNJG takes an active role in championing the vital role New Jersey’s nonprofit sector plays in the state. We advocate for public policies that support a strong and fair economy, the economic and social well-being of New Jersey’s residents, a healthy environment, and civically engaged and educated communities. In keeping with our vision, we seek to advance equity and inclusive public policies. We promote participatory philanthropy, which seeks to include a diversity of voices in public policy development and implementation and ensure that those most affected are included in the public policymaking process. We advance trust-based philanthropy, which seeks to foster equitable relationships within the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors by redistributing power — systemically, organizationally, and interpersonally — in service of a healthier and more equitable nonprofit sector. We focus our public policy efforts on issues that affect or impact the nonprofit and/or philanthropic sectors, that potentially have long-term, systemic impact, and where the involvement of CNJG could positively shape the outcome of an issue. We encourage policymakers to engage with us and think of us as a resource as we advocate for strong policies to strengthen New Jersey’s nonprofit sector and recognize the sector for the valuable and essential role that it plays.
POLICY PRIORITIES
ADVANCE RACIAL EQUITY AND JUSTICE. Philanthropy has a critical role to play in dismantling structural racism by advancing equitable public policy. We seek to analyze and support public policies that further racial equity, eliminate persistent racial disparities, and promote equitable outcomes across issue areas including health and well-being, education, economy, housing, and the environment.
A WELL-RESOURCED NONPROFIT SECTOR. A resilient and well-resourced New Jersey nonprofit sector is essential to a healthy and equitable New Jersey and a resilient economy that works for all. Too often, the nonprofit sector is under-resourced and under-valued for the critical role that it plays. We support policies that eliminate barriers to effective nonprofit operations, enable long-term fiscal planning, and encourage all New Jersey residents to support and engage with the nonprofit sector. Examples of policies we support include:
- state contracts that adequately compensate staff.
- multi-year investments in the nonprofit sector.
- government policies that support nonprofit innovation.
- reductions of “red tape.”
- increased government transparency.
- incentives for New Jersey residents to engage in charitable giving.
A COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT TO SUPPORT INNOVATION. We seek to foster collaboration and enhanced coordination among the nonprofit sector, philanthropy, and government at all levels. We support public policy initiatives and innovative efforts that further this aim.
SUPPORTING NONPROFITS’ ADVOCACY ROLE. We work to protect the vital ability of the nonprofit sector to advocate and engage in public policy, recognizing that the nonprofit sector plays an essential role in strengthening New Jersey’s economy, improving the lives of New Jersey residents, and advancing equity.
INVESTING IN PREVENTION, RESPONDING TO CRISIS AND SUPPORTING LONG-TERM RECOVERY. The philanthropic sector is often called upon to respond in times of crisis. We support public policies that make necessary investments to prevent such crises, including health, climate and natural disasters.
We also advocate for policies and investments to adequately respond to such crises and invest in long-term recovery, with a focus on prioritizing the needs of those communities that are most at-risk and hardest hit.
A HEALTHY DEMOCRACY & ENGAGED COMMUNITIES/CIVIC ENGAGEMENT. We support public policies that foster a healthy democracy, an engaged and educated populace, and the right of New Jersey residents to freely exercise their right to vote. We seek to advance efforts that remove barriers to civic engagement and voting.

Programming for the Emerging Leaders group is geared towards early and mid-career professionals and will serve as: a professional learning community for emerging professionals working in diverse positions; an opportunity for professional development and individual capacity-building that will lead to institutional change within the member organizations; and as a critical partner in the creation of a pipeline into senior/executive leadership in NJ philanthropy. This meeting will focus on current trends in Philanthropy from the perspective of Brandon McKoy, President of the Fund for New Jersey, who brings a wealth of knowledge as someone who first served as a Program Associate at the Fund.
Brandon McKoy is President of the Fund for New Jersey and is an established leader in public policy analysis and advocacy statewide and nationally. Returning to The Fund for New Jersey in 2024 served as a homecoming given that Brandon worked as a Program Associate at the organization and served as its first philanthropy fellow from 2012 to 2014.
Brandon is well known for his accomplishments from his time at New Jersey Policy Perspective, where he held several roles over the course of seven years, first as a State Policy Fellow through the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities’ program, next as a Policy Analyst, and then as Director of Government and Public Affairs, before assuming leadership of the organization as NJPP’s President from 2019 through late 2021.

oday New Jersey Community Capital, a leading national community development financial institution, committed $50,000 to nonprofits chosen by mayors and a county leader who are deeply committed to furthering formative economic impact efforts in their respective communities. Each leader will have $10,000 to award to a local nonprofit doing groundbreaking work. NJCC awards the grants at the close of Black History Month annually to mark the commemoration's focus on creating economic equity for divested populations.
This year, NJCC's grants will go to nonprofits chosen by the mayors of Dallas, Texas, New York City, New York and Newark and New Brunswick, New Jersey, and the economic opportunity director of Los Angeles County. Supporting nonprofits in urban communities throughout the nation is in keeping with NJCC's goal to foster sustainable economic development and wealth creation in overlooked communities from coast to coast.
"These grants achieve several of our objectives," NJCC President and CEO Bernel Hall said. "First, it champions the principles behind Black History Month and underscores NJCC's dedication to creating social and economic parity. By contributing to initiatives important to the leaders of these municipalities, we are supporting their efforts to create thriving, equitable communities.
"Our second objective is to support projects that can benefit from our unique, expansive initiatives. We've been extremely effective because our programs are both entrepreneurial and augmentative," explained Hall. This is especially relevant today given our nation's dire need for more affordable housing, small business expansion and high-quality school systems."
The New Jersey Historical Commission board has approved $5.2 million in Fiscal Year 2026 (FY 26) grant funding benefitting 93 historical organizations, museums, historic sites, archives, libraries, individuals, and county re-grant agencies across the state.
The $5.2 million in FY 26 funding will support the New Jersey Historical Commission’s General Operating Support (GOS) program, which covers an array of operational expenses for qualified history organizations; Projects and Co-Sponsored Projects, which includes New Jersey-based historical research, exhibits, programs, and archival work; and the County History Partnership Program (CHPP), which provides all 21 counties with funding for local history groups statewide.
The funding for FY 26 takes on even greater importance as the state’s history community plans and prepares programming for the upcoming America 250th commemoration in 2026.
“From promoting civic engagement, expanding economic vitality, and broadening the knowledge of the state’s exceptional cultural resources, this funding strengthens that commitment by providing critical support to advance awareness of New Jersey’s past,” noted Lt. Governor Tahesha Way, who oversees the NJHC in her role as Secretary of State. “The result will be a strong, inclusive, and proactive history community ready to maximize its programmatic impacts for the 250th in 2026.”
