The Disaster Philanthropy Playbook is the comprehensive resource of best practices and innovative approaches to guide the philanthropic community in responding to future disasters.
Designed as a multimedia, interactive online magazine, the Playbook compiles ideas and approaches from multiple organizations and is an “evergreen” resource designed for continued updates and knowledge-building. Community planning, civic rebuilding, legal services, housing, addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, working with local, state and federal government, mitigation and preparedness are some of the common issues faced by communities post disaster that are covered in detail in the Playbook.
The Playbook also allows organizations to prepare for all phases of a disaster. What can we do to plan and prepare our community? What about mitigation? How do we help build a resilient community? What should we think about in the months and years after a disaster as we undertake the arduous path of recovery?
The Disaster Philanthropy Playbook is a joint project of the Center for Disaster Philanthropy and Council of New Jersey Grantmakers in association with the United Philanthropy Forum (formerly the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers).
Based sardonically on Masterpiece Theatre, Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers’s Structural Racism Theaterintroduces the viewer to concrete examples of structural racism and implicit bias. It’s edgy, dryly humorous, “shareable,” and an incredibly different direction for WRAG. The first episode, "The Pernicious Compromise," focuses on the timely topic of the Electoral College and its connection to the Three-Fifths Compromise.

The Global Employee Engagement Report: A Corporate Responsibility Practitioner’s Guide is designed to provide practical information to companies looking to expand their employee engagement programs internationally. The report explores the employee engagement landscape in five countries: China, Brazil, India, South Africa and the United Kingdom. SVCF surveyed existing literature (global and country-specific) and conducted in-depth interviews with 65 corporate and nonprofit practitioners who have direct experience with employee engagement programs in the five countries studied. The report identifies cultural nuances, policies and trends that practitioners should be aware of as they design locally relevant programs.
Expanding Minds and Opportunities is a collection of articles presenting examples of effective practices, programs and partnerships demonstrating the power of afterschool and summer learning opportunities to support student success.
Please join us as we hear from partners engaged in building the financial capability of Newark residents to stabilize their families and build wealth for the long-term. We will be joined by Catherine Wilson, President and CEO of the United Way of Greater Newark, who will discuss the work of the Newark Prosperity Hub (formerly Newark Asset Building Coalition) to help residents build assets and generational wealth. Dominque Lee, Founder and CEO of Brick Education Network, will brief us on South Ward Children’s Neighborhood’s initiatives. Kevin Callaghan will provide updates on the recently released City of Newark Economic Empowerment Blueprint. Prudential Financial will discuss their latest initiatives, including a partnership with the Financial Health Network. This is all in an effort to develop a shared partnership framework to inform our collective approach and align resources.

This position is responsible for developing programs that enhance and support the Corporate Social Responsibility team’s vision, strategic planning, financial management and funding operations that support the overall objectives of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. This positon will oversee the Horizon Cares programs, Horizon’s internal platform of benefits that support employees’ charitable interests, to encourage employee engagement and maximize partnership opportunities and company reputation.
The New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH) recently awarded $202,840 in Incubation and Action Grant funding to fifteen organizations. Incubation Grants help organizations plan, research, develop, and prototype public humanities projects and events. Action Grants help organizations implement a wide array of humanities-based projects, including public programs, exhibitions, installations, tours, and discussion groups.
Public humanities programming allows individuals to engage in lifelong learning and share in the exploration of history, values, cultures, and beliefs. NJCH supports and acts as a resource for cultural and service-oriented nonprofit partners as they bring the public humanities to the residents of New Jersey, harnessing the power of the humanities to strengthen communities.
