This handy reference tool contains the definitions for over 250 cause marketing industry terms used by savvy businesses and nonprofit organizations. When you meet with partners, whether you are a corporation or a nonprofit, it’s always beneficial to speak their language and show them that you fully understand their marketing landscape. We’ve taken some buzzwords straight from this year’s headlines and added others that have been around awhile but have taken on added importance in 2019.
Nonprofits can and should play an active role during elections, particularly by educating and activating voters. However, with important local, state and federal elections coming up this fall, nonprofits should take the time to remind their staff about appropriate activity during a political campaign or at any other time. This overview developed by Donors Forum provides important tips and examples of activities that are permissible for nonprofits during an election cycle.
New Jersey grantmakers devote significant resources – both intellectual and financial – to many of the same focus areas as the Department of Community Affairs. Some of CNJG’s members invest almost exclusively in programs related to housing, neighborhood revitalization, and community development.
On June 10, join Commissioner Suárez of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs for a candid discussion focusing on current priority areas within NJDCA and possible opportunities for New Jersey’s philanthropic community to partner with state government on areas of mutual concern.
This is an excellent opportunity for funders to share knowledge, insights, and best practices that can help to inform the public sector's strategies for addressing key issues facing the state.
Cost: Free for CNJG Members, $95 for Non Member Grantmakers.
A light lunch will be served.

NJToday interview featuring CNJG President Nina Stack.
Interview with Nina Stack, President of Council of New Jersey Grantmakers.
The Center for Non-Profits sought to explore the state of New Jersey non-profit staff and boards in terms of racial and ethnic diversity along with gender and other indicators. In late 2018, they conducted the New Jersey Non-Profit Compensation and Diversity Survey, a comprehensive examination of staff compensation, and of diversity in leadership and staff diversity in the state’s non-profits.
Their survey showed that the same diversity and equity problems documented elsewhere in the country are all too apparent in New Jersey also. The study underscores the enormous challenges facing the non-profit community to overcome deep- seated inequities in leadership, recruitment and retention.
A Framework for Change
The Doing Good Better Steering Committee encourages funders to focus on and advocate for four (4) changes that can make an immediate difference in addressing power dynamics between nonprofits and funders and maximizing nonprofit impact. These goals are aligned with Trust Based Philanthropy, and are interdependent; when combined, they foster equity and a spirit of mutual trust between grantmakers and nonprofit partners. For more details about a specific goal, click on its individual goal link below.
• Goal 1: Center Equity
• Goal 2: Provide Flexible Funding
• Goal 3: Provide Reliable Funding
• Goal 4: Reduce Paperwork Burden
