The Victoria Foundation in Newark, New Jersey, has announced grants totaling $12.8 million in 2024 as part of its centennial anniversary.
The grants support area nonprofits as part of the Thriving Neighborhoods Initiative, the foundation’s long-term commitment to building power and generational well-being, focusing on the neighborhoods of Fairmount Heights, Lower Broadway, and Upper Clinton Hill. In December, at a year-end gala to celebrate its anniversary, the foundation presented “surprise” Centennial Impact Awards to seven organizations totaling $2.5 million.
“These funds ensure that our grantees continue to provide quality programs and support to meet the needs of Newark families,” said Victoria Foundation executive officer Craig Drinkard. “We look forward to 2025 and our continued partnership in all the important work.”
Eleven nonprofits have been awarded a total of $905,000 in grants by the trustees of The Fund for New Jersey, the organization announced Thursday.
The Fund for New Jersey is a nonprofit organization that aims to improve the quality of decision-making related to public policy about the state's most pressing issues. For over 50 years, The Fund has supported organizations and initiatives advancing systemic and sustainable solutions to public problems through policy, advocacy, analysis, and organizing.
In Q2 2024, our foundation awarded 34 grants totaling over $14 million.
Our second quarter grantmaking focuses on identifying and fueling the scale of cost-effective programs and solutions that accelerate improvement in key academic and socioemotional outcomes for all children. As always, we place an emphasis on grantmaking and strategic support that unlock innovation, evidence, and growth for our grantees.
In Q2 2025, our foundation awarded 52 grants totaling over $32 million.
Our second quarter grantmaking focuses on identifying and fueling the scale of cost-effective programs and solutions that accelerate improvement in key academic and socioemotional outcomes for all children. As always, we place an emphasis on grantmaking and strategic support that unlock innovation, evidence, and growth for our grantees.
The Trustees of The Fund for New Jersey awarded $823,000 in grants to eleven nonprofit organizations at their March 2021 quarterly Board meeting. Grants were awarded to organizations in the areas of environmental justice, immigration, housing, and public media.

“The Fund is particularly proud to support a cohort of immigrant organizations working to make New Jersey a place that welcomes immigrants and supports their opportunities for economic mobility and social inclusion. Too often, undocumented immigrants are marginalized or forgotten. Undocumented immigrants have largely been excluded from receipt of government relief assistance throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, yet they continue to be essential frontline workers, working in farms, food factories, grocery stores, and more. The immigrant rights organizations that The Fund supports advocate every day to correct these injustices.”
With a resounding endorsement, The Westfield Foundation recently voted in three new board members: Toni Janota, Michael Moye and Dr. Cheryl Lundy Swift, all of Westfield. At the same time, the organization recognized the service of outgoing members: Tim Boyle, Stan Gersch and Rich Elbert.

Our new board members had the privilege of witnessing our Q2 grants meeting in early May where we funded over $100,000 to community programs. Some notable grants this quarter: providing a new mode of transportation for the Westfield Community Center, renovation funds for The Our House Foundation’s New Providence Day Program site, and continued support for the Presbyterian Church of Westfield’s mission to supplement local in-need families with nutrient-dense food.
In the second quarter of 2021, the Westfield Foundation distributed $68,544.00 in grants to 10 different agencies: CancerCare Inc., CASA of Union County, Caring Contact, Family Promise, Greater Somerset County YMCA, More Than Bootstraps, Our House Foundation, Patriots’ Path Council – Boy Scouts, Presbyterian Church - Agape Community Kitchen and the Westfield Service League.
These funds will be used for such items as face masks for summer day campers, supplemental groceries for families in need, replacement of inoperable windows, training for family advocates re substance abuse and a healthy food initiative to address food insufficiency.
The Princeton Area Community Foundation recently awarded $199,000 in COVID-19 Relief & Recovery Fund grants to 25 nonprofits holding summer programs.
These programs will include instructions to help students overcome learning loss caused by the pandemic.
"Through these grants, we are helping 25 nonprofits engage 2,900 children in educational and social-emotional learning programs," said Jeffrey M. Vega, President & CEO of the Community Foundation.
"We know COVID-19 caused significant disruptions to education, especially for students living in under-resourced communities, and we hope these grants will help young people rebound from some of that learning loss and re-engage children in the many community-based programs that were forced to shut down last year."
To prepare for the third phase of COVID Relief funding, the Foundation reached out to nonprofits and other stakeholders to learn about needs throughout the region.
Learning loss due to the pandemic and helping prepare students to return to classrooms were among the highest priorities cited by nonprofits.
According to a report by JerseyCAN, a nonprofit focused on education, a majority of New Jersey's third- through eighth-graders were not on grade level at the start of the 2020-21 school year because of the pandemic.
The FirstEnergy Foundation has granted surprise "Gifts of the Season" totaling $20,000 to two nonprofits that are working to make lives better in New Jersey communities served by FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) subsidiary Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L).

As Jewish institutions across the U.S., from synagogues to Jewish Community Centers, tighten security measures as a response to rising antisemitism, the Tepper Foundation noticed that fears were particularly heightened among young families. In response, the grantmaking foundation announced on Monday that it will deploy $2.5 million in emergency grants through its Security Fund to underwrite the cost of security personnel in Jewish institutions where young children are in attendance.
“By speaking with our grantees, we discovered that many of them don’t have security on the premises when young children are present. This was creating a good deal of anxiety among parents,” Marian Stern, a consultant who serves as a portfolio manager at The Tepper Foundation, told eJewishPhilanthropy.

Bank of America announced Wednesday that it has made more than $1.5 million in grants to 28 New Jersey nonprofits to help drive economic opportunity for individuals and families.
The grants focus on workforce development and education to help individuals chart a path to employment and better economic futures, as well as basic needs fundamental to building lifelong stability, such as access to food.
While New Jersey’s economy is recovering from the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state still trails the nation in terms of employment and job creation. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, New Jersey’s unemployment rate is 4.1%, compared with the national average of 3.6%.
Employment is a key driver of economic mobility in New Jersey.
Bank of America New Jersey President Alberto Garofalo said that is why the bank is focused on building pathways to employment by supporting a range of workforce development and educational opportunities that will help vulnerable individuals and families stabilize and advance.
“We’ve chosen to partner with nonprofits that address the most critical issues facing New Jersey, including workforce development, food insecurity and economic and social progress,” he said. “Our philanthropic investment in these organizations helps us deploy capital locally, where it will have the most impact and build sustainable communities.”
To bolster the social and economic well-being of the communities served by FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) electric company Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), FirstEnergy and the FirstEnergy Foundation have donated more than $740,000 in 2024 to organizations that support a wide array of community-enhancing endeavors. These initiatives help promote workforce and economic development, enhance the social and cultural landscape of the region and champion crucial safety initiatives.

A total of 113 nonprofit and civic organizations in northern and central New Jersey are making progress on their missions, thanks to grants from FirstEnergy and the FirstEnergy Foundation.
A total of $29,000 has been donated by Kearny Bank to the scholarship funds of 26 high schools, one local board of education, and two educational support organizations in nine New Jersey counties. The funds represent the latest contributions in a long-standing, annual scholarship program managed by the KearnyBank Foundation.
“We’re quite proud of our annual high school scholarship program, which highlights Kearny Bank’s deep commitment to supporting education throughout New Jersey,” says Kearny Bank President and CEO Craig Montanaro. “High school was anything but conventional for members of the class of 2021. We’re hoping our scholarship donations will play a part in enabling these students to have spectacular, post-pandemic collegiate experiences.”
In its most recent round of giving, the KearnyBank Foundation donated a total of $170,300 to five New Jersey-based charitable organizations.
