The foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Maisha Simmons as director of the Foundation’s New Jersey program team, where she will lead our efforts to build a healthier, more equitable New Jersey for everyone who calls our state home.

Maisha rejoins the Foundation after serving as senior director of foundation relations at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Prior to joining RWJF in 2008, Maisha worked with the United Way of Essex and West Hudson in Newark. She also served as a National Urban Fellow with the Community Development Law Center and the Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center in Indianapolis, IN. She also served in various positions at Cathedral Community Development Corporation in Perth Amboy, NJ. In addition, she served as an inspector with the Union County Division of Public Works, Bureau of Mosquito Control, during an outbreak of West Nile virus.

As a native of Union County and lifelong New Jersey resident, Maisha brings a passion for ensuring that everyone in our state has a fair and just opportunity to live their healthiest lives possible.
