The Next 20: People, Places, Perspectives

The Next 20: People, Places, Perspectives

Thursday, March 2, 2017

The announcement of our 2017 Spring Conference for the Social Sector has just gone out and we hope you are marking your calendars now for June 13. This biennial event has grown to become one of the most valuable learning and networking opportunities for our members…that is what you, our members have told us!

This year’s theme is “The Next 20: People, Places, Perspectives” exploring how our state will be changing and the implications of those changes for the social sector, as well crowdfunding ideas for collaboration and collective action. You may recall that the last conference was structured differently than in the past with its opening “ignite” session. Well, this year’s gathering will completely break the mold with a highly innovative design intended to drive bold ideas, explore experienced perspectives, and engage everyone in creative problem solving.

Plenary presentations will showcase “The Rise of the Disruptors” – New Jersey social entrepreneurs; “Sharing the Wisdom” – insights from New Jersey seasoned leaders; and “The Linchpin” – why the 2020 Census matters so much. We are also excited that we will use an “open space” format to get into “Building a Shared Vision” where strategies to advance the sector in this changing landscape can be collaboratively identified.

This year, as CNJG marks its 20th Anniversary, we are actually thinking a lot about the future – of the field, of the State, and of the Council itself. We have launched a Strategic Visioning process to help us consider and understand what our members will need the Council to be in the next decade. What we know is that to advance any efforts in this rapidly changing environment, collaboration and collective focus is essential. Recognizing this basic imperative, our Program Committee has conceived a conference that we believe will help us better understand what is coming and lay seeds for deeper partnerships. Looking into the future together will strengthen our work going forward.

Sincerely,

Nina Stack, President
Council of New Jersey Grantmakers
