F.M. Kirby Foundation Welcomes New Staff Members

Monday, September 18, 2017

The F.M. Kirby Foundation is pleased to announce that Diana L. Kostas has joined the Foundation, effective August 21, as Treasurer and Secretary. Diana worked previously at a mid-size NJ foundation for nearly two years, a valuable experience she will draw from in her new post, which entails performing full accounting responsibilities and financial due diligence regarding grantees, as well as acting as Investment Committee liaison. Diana has BSBA undergraduate degrees in both Finance and Entrepreneurship from the University of Arizona, as well as her MBA from Pepperdine University. She’s had a varied finance career in the entrepreneurial, for-profit, and non-profit universes (considerable volunteer work included). Diana, her husband, and their three boys live in Glen Ridge. President of the Foundation, S. Dillard Kirby, stated, “We are fortunate to have been referred to Diana through a colleague in the philanthropic field, and we recognized immediately that she brought with her experience in all three areas critical to the position. In a small-staffed office such as ours, we need professionals that can multi-task and be team players, and she clearly fit the bill.”

Secondly, the Foundation announces that Erin C. Clifford, its intern over the past six months, has begun full-time employment, effective September 1, as the Communications and Program Associate. Her responsibilities include website maintenance and monitoring, grantee evaluation, and public relations. Erin graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 2015 with a major in Psychology and minors in French and Philosophy. Following her graduation, she volunteered for an AmeriCorps program in Juneau, Alaska, working with children with disabilities as a Youth Program Coordinator.  She currently lives in Morristown. Mr. Kirby continued, “Erin has been a joy to have in the office over the past six months. She was just so good that we created a full-time position for her as our utility player. We expect, from both her and Diana, new energy as we finish up our three-year strategic plan and embark on a logical extension of such plan that continues our long grantee relationships while selectively building new ones.”

The F.M. Kirby Foundation is headquartered in Morristown, NJ. Endowed in 1931 by Fred Morgan Kirby, one of the founders of the F.W. Woolworth Company, the Foundation was designed to continue in perpetuity through generations of the family. Fred Morgan Kirby served as its president until 1940 and has been succeeded in that role by three generations, to date. Six Kirby family members, currently covering three generations, serve on the Board, as well as two non-family directors. The Foundation distributes grants to charitable organizations of particular interest to the family and largely within specific geographic areas. With a current annual grants budget of approximately $13 million, the Foundation provides funding to many non-profit organizations in the fields of education, health, environment, arts, religion, public affairs, and human services.
