Join the Strong and Thriving Communities and Culture Funders as we explore what exactly Opportunity Zones are and how philanthropy can play a role.

Opportunity Zones are part of a national community development program that identify low-income communities in need of investment. In an effort to encourage development, part of changes made in 2017 federal tax law support preferential tax treatment for investments made in these communities. In order to ensure the success of opportunity zones, foundations have begun to think about how they can effectively drive community investment and generate positive impact in their communities.

For this meeting, we will dive deeper into this new program and begin to uncover just how foundations can help channel investments into opportunity zone communities. To navigate philanthropy’s role, we’ll discuss both benefits and challenges of opportunity zones, as well as some examples of investments that are already underway.

We’ll hear from a group of speakers who are working hard to ensure that opportunity zone communities positively benefit from long-term investments made through the program.
