Newark 2020: Preparing Newark Residents for Newark Jobs
"With opening remarks from Mayor Ras Baraka*
The City of Newark and cross-sector partners including every one of the city’s anchor institutions have committed to Newark 2020, a bold and historic plan that seeks to identify 2,020 jobs for Newark residents that put them on a career pathway toward a living wage job. Its longer-term goal is to re-align current systems, and stand up new ones, so that local hiring practices and high-quality workforce training systems are embedded in the way the City does business. Newark 2020 is multi-faceted and has implications on the K-12 sector, the higher education sector, the workforce training and development sector, and the hiring and retention practices of Newark’s anchor institutions. Therefore, it is a fitting discussion for these two funder affinity groups to engage in together.
