The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation invites members of the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers to a special briefing to present a model collaboration of three nonprofit partners -- the JBJ Soul  Foundation, The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties,  and Peoples Pantry. These three partners  are coming together to create a community resource hub in Ocean County where families and individuals in need can access food, job training and other resources  that will help to end the cyclical causes of hunger.

CNJG members with an interest in and commitment to issues about food and hunger, will be most interested to learn firsthand about this bold and promising initiative that was recently announced publicly and that is being launched with seed funding from The David Tepper Foundation.

Ocean County is New Jersey’s fastest growing county and was ground zero for Superstorm Sandy.  Between 2000 and 2012, its population grew by 12.8% and child poverty nearly doubled from 10.2% to 19.2%. Per capita income is well below New Jersey’s average. Ocean ranks second in the nation for concentration of seniors, and it is home to 15% of New Jersey’s veterans. Sandy exposed the fragile underpinning of Ocean’s physical, economic and social infrastructure, revealing in stark relief the needs of low income households – the poor and working poor – for access to a range of resources, living wage employment, affordable housing and financial stability.

This special briefing will focus on these realities and the collaborative approach of three nonprofit partners that will have a significant and lasting impact on this region.
