Join us for our third Bergen County Funders Briefing where we will explore the impacts of COVID-19 on the ALICE population in Bergen, and opportunities for philanthropy to support greater financial security across the county.

ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are the families and individuals living paycheck to paycheck, they are essential workers and those who have been furloughed or laid off because they cannot work remotely. As a result, they are more vulnerable to increased health problems and financial strain during this time.

Kiran Gaudioso, CEO of the United Way of Northern New Jersey will present data on the ALICE population in Bergen County and how this will change due to COVID-19. We’ll hear about the challenges for both the essential worker and the unemployed population struggling to access services, and how the United Way of Northern New Jersey is supporting ALICE amid this current crisis. Lastly, Kiran will share what is being done around the nation to address structural issues, such as childcare or eligibility for services.

After Kiran’s presentation, there will be time for funders to discuss which programs are successful in supporting ALICE, and ways philanthropy can leverage resources to create structural change.

We hope you can be a part of this critical conversation on how funders can take advantage of this opportunity to find long-term, sustainable solutions for confronting financial security in Bergen County.
