Join us for a briefing and interactive discussion on the thriving arts scene in Newark.  We will be joined by Jeremy Johnson, the Executive Director of Newark Arts, who will brief us on Newark Creates.  Newark Creates is a collaborative plan, powered by Newark Arts on behalf of the city, that aims to support the civic, social, and economic growth of Newark and by advancing the creation, production, and availability of arts and culture in the city.  We will then hear directly from practitioners who can speak to the power of the arts as an economic driver in the city.  Some questions we will consider include:

  • How are artists leading neighborhood redevelopment efforts throughout the city?
  • In what ways can the private and public sectors be most impactful in fostering the arts?
  • What role can funders play in encouraging greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts and cultural sector.
  • How are anchor institutions benefiting the health of the sector?
