The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation's newly revised guidelines for grantmaking in 2010 are now available. These guidelines are the culmination of several months of listening, reading, talking to grantees and practitioners, and deep discussions among staff and board about the themes that tie together the Foundation’s grantmaking in the fields of Arts, Education, and Environment, and in the foundation's home town of Morristown. The resulting guidelines are an evolution of many partnerships formed in recent years, not a revolution or dramatic new direction for Dodge.

The guidelines highlight the themes of creativity and sustainability and the role they play in helping to make the world more livable and society more humane. We encourage you to read  Michelle Knapik’s blog posts (Parts 1, 2, and 3) about the evolution of the new guidelines, as well as the Background to the Guidelines and the On Creativity and Sustainability box on Dodge's website for more insight.

For current grantees and organizations who have already been invited to apply, it is not necessary to submit a letter of inquiry. Also, an updated application reflects these new guidelines. It is also worth noting a new flexible approach to application deadlines. There is no longer only one time a year when proposals from a particular field may apply. Applicants may now choose among three proposal due dates the one that best fits the rhythms of their year and the timing of specific projects.

If you have questions about how to apply or letters of inquiry, please contact Dodge's Grants Manager Roseann DeBois.
