Join the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers’ Delegation to Foundations on the Hill
March 16-17, 2010, Washington, DC

As Congress continues to examine issues affecting foundations, it is critical that New Jersey’s congressional delegation hears from us – their foundation constituents. We invite you to join the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers, the Council on Foundations and the Forum of Regional Associations for Foundations on the Hill (FOTH), taking place March 16-17 in Washington, DC. Here are five reasons why you should be a part of CNJG’s FOTH delegation.

1) Share Your Story – Often members of Congress and their staff know very little about philanthropy. FOTH is a chance for you to share how your foundation is making a difference in NJ. The more Congress knows about you, the less inclined they will be to take actions that will harm foundations.

2) Build Relationships Before Legislation Introduced –FOTH is our opportunity to build relationships with our members of Congress and their staff before governance legislation is introduced. Remember – your first contact with a lawmaker’s office should not be when you need something from him or her.

3) Show Extra Commitment to Your Cause – Constituents meet with their senators and representatives in the state all the time. But the constituents that travel to Capitol Hill show an extra level of commitment to their cause.

4) Meet the Legislative Staff – During FOTH, we’ll meet our members of Congress, their tax aides, and the legislative staffers assigned to monitor foundation and charitable sector issues. These meetings can encourage them to become effective advocates on your behalf.

5) We’ve Made It Easy – CNJG will organize and schedule meetings with the NJ congressional delegation. And when we arrive in Washington, CoF and Forum staff will help us prepare for our Wednesday meetings on Capitol Hill.
